St George Girls High School Enrolment Procedures

 

Information about the School

Established 90 years ago St George Girls High School is an academically selective school for girls. Situated within walking distance of Kogarah railway station the school attracts students from all areas of Sydney.

Recognised for the academic excellence achieved by its students, the school prepares the gifted girl to become the successful woman of the future. Our highly experienced and dedicated teachers deliver quality learning experiences in classrooms which support each girl to develop her individual talents. The school has an extensive computer network to enable each student to have access to the latest computer technology.

A team of teachers and staff monitors the emotional development and well-being of each student ensuring that her school experience is happy, challenging and fulfilling. A school wide merit system rewards the achievement of personal excellence. Targeted programs specifically designed for each year support our students by boosting self-esteem and motivation to succeed.

Our school has extensive landscaped grounds and a mixture of historic buildings and modern facilities.

The stimulating and focussed classroom environment is combined with a wide range of extra curricula activities in sport, creative and performing arts, academic competitions, student leadership and community service. Each girl no matter what her interests or talents will be given the opportunity to have them nurtured and reach her full potential.

Enrolment Processes

Years 7 to 10 have an enrolment ceiling of 150 girls. In Year 11 each year up to 20 extra students may be offered enrolment taking Year 11 and 12 numbers up to a maximum of 170 students.

Year 7 Enrolment

Year 7 placements are administered by the Selective Schools Unit (Telephone 97076262 Fax 9707 6265 email ssu@det.nsw.edu.au) Year 7 placement is based on primary school assessments and state-wide examinations in Mathematics, English and general aptitude. These examinations are held in March for Year 6 students.

Interested parents of Year 5 students should obtain an application package from their State Primary School,, any selective school and district offices. The application package can also be downloaded from the Selective School Unit Website. Sample questions from past Selective Schools Placement tests are also available on the SSU website. The application form inside the package should be completed and returned to the child’s primary school by the closing date shown on the application package.

Interested parents and prospective students of St George Girls High School will be able to attend an Information Morning in the School Hall on 7 November 2008. Details of the information morning will be posted on our school website.

Years 8-12 Enrolment

Very few vacancies occur in Years 7-10. Application to be placed on a waiting list should a vacancy occur must be made on the application forms available from the School's website. These forms are available on this site in June of each year.
